Your role

Purpose of the Role:

Strategic Analytics and Business Insights team sits within GMS Analytics in Global Merchant and Network Services. The purpose of the role is to provide data-driven insights that inform short-term merchant strategies through consultative analytics for the global market(s). This position will report to the Manager, Strategic Analytics and Business Insights, and will lead end-to-end delivery of the project from problem definition, and data analysis/interpretation to developing the storyline with the insights/recommendations. The candidate is required to create strategic insights by quickly understanding new data presented in front of them and making decisions based on logic, business understanding, and data techniques.

Responsibilities:

• Drive consultative & strategic analytical projects for merchants across the globe operating in the Travel, Retail & Everyday Spend industries
• Proactively drive in-house strategic initiatives to further merchant engagement and American Express brand value
• Leverage the power of the closed loop through the Amex network to make intelligent and relevant insights
• Work with partners located across the globe spread across multiple business units
• Stay current in their field and up to date with the latest business trends, data science, business statistics, and algorithms

About you

To apply for this role, you must be:

Academic Background:

• Degree in a quantitative field preferred – e.g. MBA; BSc/MSc Statistics, Bachelors/Masters in Economics 
• 0-3 Years of analytics/systems/programming/technical or project management experience

Functional Skills/Capabilities:

• Ability to drive business insights from the data and provide actionable steps
• Effective in written and verbal communication with partners located globally
• 0-3 years of experience with skills in Python, Hive, SQL, Advanced Excel & PowerPoint is preferred
• Basic knowledge of Statistical Modeling / Machine Learning techniques is preferred
• Quick learner to understand the business and support in strategic thinking
