This is a unique opportunity for a New Zealand student or recent graduate majoring in business, marketing, media and communications, music, and film to gain valuable experience through a remote internship.

In previous years, the Foundation has sent interns to Seoul to undertake an internship with CJ Cultural Foundation to learn about their experiences. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year's internship with CJ Cultural Foundation will be held entirely virtually through remote working. Students who are positive, confident, and interested in developing a career in culture and media industries are strongly encouraged to apply.

About CJ Cultural Foundation

The CJ Cultural Foundation sits under the corporate social responsibility wing of the CJ Corporation, a South Korean life-style conglomerate with interests in food, shopping, logistics, entertainment, media and technology.

The goal of CJ Cultural Foundation is to support diverse and creative culture industries by discovering and nurturing talent in music, films, and other performing arts.

About the internship

The internship period is for eight weeks, with a flexible starting date between November 2021 – February 2022.
The intern will be given a specific project or meaningful work relevant to their area of study and a mentor and supervisor will be assigned to monitor the intern's professional development.
The successful applicant will have the opportunity to conduct market research on film and music industry relevant to the company's work and monitor English media reporting, social media trends.
Management of the programme
The Asia New Zealand Foundation and CJ Cultural Foundation will jointly deliver pastoral care and support professional development in cultural competency.

Eligibility

Applicants must be:

  •  New Zealand citizens or permanent residents 
    in good health
  •  due to complete at least two years of tertiary study by November 2021 
  • adaptable, mature, reliable and resilient
  • willing to experience a Korean working environment and culture industry 
  • interested in pursuing a career involving South Korea and the wider Asian region. 

While the ability to speak Korean would be an advantage, it is not a prerequisite for this opportunity. Ideal candidates will have an interest in the national culture of Korea and aspire to develop their capacity for working in cross-cultural environments.

What's covered

This is a paid internship. Other expenses such as laptops are not covered. The Asia New Zealand Foundation and the CJ Cultural Foundation will jointly deliver pastoral care and introduce the intern to public and private sector networks in Seoul.

Selection process

  • Applications close on Monday 6 September 2021.
  • Shortlisted applicants will be notified by mid- September 2021.
  • Short-listed applicants will be invited to an in-person or online panel interview to select the successful candidate.
  • The successful candidate will be advised in October 2021.
  • All selected interns will be supported to attend a group induction day in Auckland in November 2021

Terms and conditions
The successful applicant will be required to agree to the standard Terms and Conditions for Asia New Zealand Foundation funding recipients.

Reporting requirements

Interns are expected to write a 600-word article (with accompanying photos) on their internship that will appear on the Foundation's website (to be submitted during the internship) and write a final three-page report evaluating the internship experience at the end of the programme.
