About United Media Solution

United Media Solution is a digital agency based in China, specialising in social media, as well as marketing consulting and cultural analysis. For more information about UMS visit the company's website

Applications close Monday 30 August 2021

About the internship

In previous years, the Foundation has sent interns to Shanghai to undertake an internship with United Media Solution. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this year's internship with UMS will be held entirely virtually through remote working. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to enhance their marketing research skills as well as get an understanding of Chinese digital media.

The successful intern will join a team engaged in activities ranging from public relations and marketing support for UMS's clients' products in China. The intern will be given a specific project or meaningful work to do and a mentoring supervisor will be assigned to monitor the intern's professional development. The internship will start from December 2021 and last for eight weeks.

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to:

  • Contribute to UMS' daily/weekly industry news clipping, including proofreading and re-writing brief summaries in English
  • support UMS' social sentiment report, including summarising key insights, trends and takeaways of marketing activities
  • prepare materials for webinars including graphic design to demonstrate key trends in certain markets
  • coordinate projects
  • work with the market research team to deliver projects
  • access cross-cultural competency training as well as language training.

Eligibility

Applicants must be:

  • New Zealand citizens or have New Zealand permanent resident status
  • in good health
  • due to complete at least two years of tertiary study by November 2021
  • adaptable, mature, reliable, and resilient
  • interested in pursuing a career involving China and/or the wider Asian region.

Ideal candidates will have a pre-existing interest in Asia and will aspire to develop their capacity for working in cross-cultural environments. Strong writing skills are mandatory for this internship. Knowledge of Chinese language, while useful, is not a prerequisite for the internship.

What's covered:

This is a paid internship. Other expenses such as purchase of laptops are not covered.

Management of the programme

The Asia New Zealand Foundation and UMS will jointly deliver pastoral care and support professional development in cultural competency.

Terms and conditions

The successful applicant will be required to agree to the standard Terms and Conditions for Asia New Zealand Foundation funding recipients.

Reporting requirements

Interns are expected to write a 600-word article (with accompanying photos) on their internship that will appear on the Foundation's website (to be submitted during the internship) and write a final three-page report evaluating the internship experience at the end of the programme.
