World Wildlife Fund for Nature Hong Kong

The Foundation has partnered with the World Wildlife Fund for Nature Hong Kong to deliver an internship opportunity to help a New Zealand student or researcher majoring in (but not limited to) psychology, social science, finance, economics, business or law, to gain research experience in the area of financial crime associated with illegal wildlife trade, at the world's largest conservation organization - WWF. This year's internship with WWF Hong Kong will be held entirely virtually.

About the Internship

The internship period is for 12 weeks, flexible starting between November 2021 – February 2022

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to:

• Work on a joint work programme by WWF Hong Kong and partners to deliver research on emerging trends and opportunities in regional financial crime investigations for the Asia Pacific Counter Illegal Wildlife Trade (IWT) Hub. The Hub is a consortium of organisations with similar aims in this area.
• Assist with the Hub's physical or online events, liaising with WWF's network on the development and promotion of other research initiatives and programmes with links to financial crime and IWT.
• Provide inputs to knowledge management and training products related to financial crime investigation.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

• be a New Zealand citizen or have New Zealand permanent resident status
• be students, graduates or researchers who have a working understanding of criminal justice, financial crime, anti-money laundering and/or counter financing of terrorism.
• have good writing and research skills.
• be adaptable, independent, reliable, and resilient.

What's covered:

This is a paid internship. Other expenses such as purchase of laptops are not covered.

Management of the programme

The Asia New Zealand Foundation and WWF Hong Kong will jointly deliver pastoral care and support professional development in cultural competency.

Terms and conditions

The successful applicant will be required to agree to the standard Terms and Conditions for Asia New Zealand Foundation funding recipients.

Reporting requirements

Interns are expected to write a 600-word article (with accompanying photos) on their internship that will appear on the Foundation's website (to be submitted during the internship) and write a final three-page report evaluating the internship experience at the end of the programme.

Selection process

• Applications close Monday 13 September 2021. 
• Shortlisted applicants will be notified by mid- September 2021. 
• Short-listed applicants will be invited to an in-person or online panel interview to select the successful candidate.
• The successful candidate will be advised in October 2021.
• All selected interns will be supported to attend a group induction day in Auckland in November 2021
