The Bouygues Construction Australia story

As a wholly-owned subsidiary of Bouygues Construction, BYCA is a part of the Bouygues Group.

Bouygues Construction Australia (BYCA) is a construction and civil engineering company dedicated to providing world-class services in building, civil engineering, earthworks and infrastructures throughout Australia.

BYCA’s journey began in 1995 with the Sydney Airport Link project.

2016 represented a major turn  in their business with the beginning of the Solar Farm activity.

BYCA ongoing success translated into 3 major contract awards in the mid-2010s in Sydney and Melbourne: with the mega-projects NorthConnex, Melbourne Metro Tunnel and WestConnex.

Beginning 2021, BYCA boasted over 600 employees.

The culture

BYCA dedicated to supporting and inspiring its employees to create positive legacies for future generations.

Health and Safety - More than a corporate obligation, this is their core value. Their employees play an integral role in the development and implementation of their Workplace Safety Culture where programs place safety at the center of their operations.

Diversity - We celebrate and respect the value of diversity, actively supporting gender and cultural diversity through a number of initiatives including the UNSW scholarship program which promotes Women in Engineering.

Sustainability - Their holistic commitment is to Shape a Better life in all areas of their business.

Communication – honesty, accountability, transparency - We believe open communication and honesty are essential to fostering a respectful working environment where people can openly celebrate achievements and discuss challenges.

Versatility - We believe everyone has more than one skill and can contribute positively to different areas of the company. We are flexible and proactive in providing you with opportunities and resources to excel in your career.

Remuneration

You can expect to earn around the industry average for a grad engineer position. Benefits seem to vary depending on what region you’re working on and aren’t always lavish.

Career prospects

Though it's long been publicly listed, Bouygues still operates in many ways as a family company. If it doesn’t offer eye-catching salaries and benefits packages, it does at least provide more job security than is usual in the construction industry. If you work hard, perform well (and can say hello in French!) you should be able to move up the ranks.

The vibe of the place

This varies depending on role, location and project. If you’re an innovative, diligent type who enjoys working with colleagues from all over the globe and wants the opportunity to spend time in other countries, you should find BYCA a good fit for you.

Our graduate program provides ongoing education, locally and through Bouygues Construction’s Asia Pacific training hub with opportunities to learn and train on Bouygues Construction projects across Asia.

From Martin Bouygues, CEO of the Bouygues Group:

I’m often asked what is the Bouygues group’s main strength and distinguishing feature more than sixty-five years after its creation. Without doubt, the Group’s main strength is having people who share the same culture and robust values, and that it can count on stable shareholders – SCDM a and its employees – who are very much involved in the conduct of its business. This is what enables us to meet challenges with a long-term vision.

Three priorities guide our strategies and action. They are to:

satisfy our customers and retain their loyalty, since this is the reason for our existence. Designed with our partners, our innovative products and services must help them meet the major challenges of today (demographic, climatic, digital) over the long term, whilst making life better every day for as many people as possible;conduct our business with respect for all our stakeholders and create value for our employees and shareholders;maintain a healthy financial situation and a reasonable level of debt in order to continue independent decision-making in all circumstances. Furthermore, the diversification of our activities helps to cushion the impact of the difficulties that some of them may experience from time to time.

"Before making any strategic decisions, in my opinion, the most important thing to bear in mind is that our company is a real-life journey that deserves the utmost respect since its people work tirelessly, using their energy and talent to make life better every day."
