Application Process & Interviews at Canva

9.3
9.3 rating for Recruitment, based on 6 reviews
Please describe the interview process and assessments.
The interviewers were all really friendly and respectful. I was hired as an intern and then I received a return offer upon completion of my internship, so I did not go through the traditional grad hiring process. The interview questions were doable, and I found the interview process much, much nicer than a lot of other companies I interviewed at, for similar positions.

The hiring process felt very human and was nice

I was hired as an intern before returning as a graduate. The process as an intern was application, HR interview (30 mins) and a final interview (1.5 hr).

3 rounds of interviews, with some feedback sessions with a recruiter between each round (this was extremely useful and was even able to get some tips)

What questions were you asked in your interviews?
I had technical questions as well as behavioural questions - which unpacked my personality and passions as well as my technical abilities.

HR Interview - behavioural questions and some general technical data questions Final Interview - 1 hr technical interview with Python coding to wrangle data and then mocking up a dashboard. Followed by 30 mins behavioural interview to check alignment with company values.

The questions build on top of each other and are often derived from programming challenges that engineers have faced while working here Canva

Do you have any specific tips and advice for candidates applying to your company? How would you recommend they best prepare?
The technical questions themselves aren't extensively challenging (unlike some other companies), however it would be a good idea to still get some Leetcode & theoretical concepts sharpened. It is also important to show your kindness, compassion, and all-around what makes you who you are as being able to fit into Canva culture is a significant part of the hiring process.

Revise sql and python skills, and designing visualisations

When preparing for the engineering interview it's important to be able to break down the problems to first principles. The interviewers are not there to make your life difficult, but instead to do your best work. The best advice I could give is to think of the technical interviews as a pair programming session.
