What's your job about?
Firstly, DXC is a B2B IT services provider operating across the globe. Our company prides itself on its graduate program, with approximately 150 graduates, also known as Young Professionals, recruited in 2018 across Australia and New Zealand. The best way to describe what we do in business operations is that we bridge the gaps between the core functions of the company, meaning that we’re collaborating with different business units on an ongoing basis. Another responsibility of ours, or perhaps a better way of looking at it, is that we delegate tasks/problems to the appropriate business unit – if it does not fall into the hands of a business unit, it’s usually our job to complete the task or problem ourselves.
What's your background?
I was born and raised in Sydney, and have lived here all my life. University definitely taught me to be independent and accountable for my own actions. I am also grateful that I started my career in customer service, where I built up a lot of confidence from heavily interacting with customers and helping them get what they’re after. Outside of work, I engage in a lot of volunteering events that have helped in strengthening my leadership skills and best part of all enabled me to make heaps of friends.
I got my job at DXC through applying online, having to undergo multiple online assessments and then had an assessment centre which consisted of a team activity, writing a detailed email and a one-on-one interview. I have been at DXC since February 2018 and have loved the opportunities my peers and manager have provided me with.
Could someone with a different background do your job?
Absolutely, yes! No university degree could make you adequately prepared for the role. I feel that to be successful in my role, you simply need to turn up to work each day with a positive attitude, be willing to cooperate with others and be able to deal with ambiguity.
What's the coolest thing about your job?
I enjoy the variety, being kept on my feet and working with a diverse group of people. I enjoy tasks that require pulling pieces together from a range of business groups and creating some output from this. This has created a lot of exposure for my personal brand which has provided me with many opportunities.
What are the limitations of your job?
It can sometimes be daunting rubbing shoulders with very senior managers; at the same time, it provides a massive opportunity to learn from such experienced and knowledgeable individuals. Due to the significant variety of tasks working within business operations, another limitation may be that you don’t know what to expect before going into work – there are a limited number of tasks that you need to complete on an ongoing basis.
