Brief History Of BDO Nigeria

In 1973, Oyediran Faleye Oke & Co was registered in Nigeria as an accounting practice. This company was affiliated with Coopers Lybrand and came into existence as a result of the Indigenisation Decree made by the then Military Government of Nigeria. This company was established to provide consultancy, audit, and tax services to multinationals operating in Nigeria, such as the United African Company of Nigeria, The Lion of Africa Insurance Company, the Lever Brothers of Nigeria, the UNIC Insurance PLC, etc.

The name of the company was sourced from the last names of the first three Nigerian partners of Coopers Lybrand. In 1998, all ties between Oyediran Faleye Oke & Co and Coopers Lybrand were severed. That was the same year the latter merged with Price Waterhouse. After the merger, Oyediran Faleye Oke & Co became a subsidiary of BDO International B.V. Fast forward to 2010, Oyediran Faleye Oke & Co rebranded to BDO Professional Services. The company established its first office in Lagos, which currently serves as its headquarters. Since then, the company has established three more offices in Abuja, Ibadan, and Port Harcourt, respectively.
