The Bell Gully story

Bell Gully is a leading New Zealand law firm. As one of the oldest New Zealand firms, established in 1840, its history is deeply embedded in domestic business.

Bell Gully has experts in all the areas of commercial law that their clients need. In addition to its five legal departments – corporate, litigation, banking and finance, real estate and projects and tax; they have specialist practices in competition, funds management, employment, trademarks and resource management. As with all leading firms globally, they recognise the importance to clients of having advisors who understand the industries in which they operate.

Although distinctively a New Zealand firm, Bell Gully is globally connected. They have a strong network of "best friend" legal firms globally who we frequently team with to provide the New Zealand component of multi-jurisdictional advice on client deals. In addition, they have a number of off-shore clients with interests in New Zealand as well as a growing practice advising private investors on their New Zealand-based investments.

Culture & vibe

Its people are intrinsically linked to Bell Gully's continuing success. They value diversity and recognise it as an advantage within the firm.

They are committed to providing a diverse and inclusive environment for all of their people at Bell Gully, allowing them to bring their entire selves to work. Their commitment to providing an environment free from discrimination is formalised in our policies and, more importantly, in how they work together. This commitment is overseen by their Diversity and Inclusion Committee ('BelonG'), with governance by the Board.

In addition to our internal Peer Support Network and mentoring programmes, Bell Gully has several support networks focused on diversity initiatives:
